I think my expectations from a coach are not unlike everyone else. I would like them to be knowledgeable, responsive, flexible and most importantly to know what works best for me. If I just wanted the standard 13 week Ironman or marathon plan, there are plenty of books and articles available. What has made my partnership with Kelly so successful for me is her ability to know how I am reacting to my workouts both physically and mentally. Together we set realistic expectations, adjusting for weather, courses, where I am in my training cycle, etc. Kelly has guided me to 2 qualifying spots to the Ironman world championship in Kona plus an age group long course National Championship win. I could not have reached those goals without her guiding me though all of the highs and lows of training and racing.
