New Summer Speed Series!
Liz Wort will be holding an 8-week youth summer speed series starting June 13th and running through August 8 (no session on 4th of July weekend) on Saturday mornings from 8 – 9:15am at Freedom Park. This is open to 6th – 12th graders and will focus on teaching proper warm-up techniques, running drills, running form, active-isolated stretching and include a full running workout (speed-focused) with core/strength work each week. Liz will bring her 7 years of college coaching experience at Duke and TCU to the youth of Charlotte who want to:
  1. improve their own personal running times
  2. learn current and proper training and recovery techniques used by elite runners across the country
  3. develop consistency with training in preparation for cross country season
  4. find other Charlotte youth with similar goals who share their love for running!
  5. work hard and have FUN! 🙂

Coach Liz Wort was a 3-time All-American track & field athlete at Duke (college PR’s of 4:38 – 1600m; 16:24 – 5k; 9:51 – 3k Steeplechase; 2:08 – 800m), a high-school state champion in New Jersey in the 3200m (high school PR’s of 4:57 – 1600m; 10:49 – 3200m; 2:14 in the 800m) and a member of her high school team’s national championship 4x800m relay team. She captained the Duke women’s cross country team to back-to-back ACC titles and 2nd and 3rd place NCAA finishes, and was fortunate to have truly outstanding coaches at both the high school and college level who helped to develop her potential and realize a passion for running. She loves working with young runners who aspire to achieve great things with their high school careers (and beyond!) and have developed a love for the running lifestyle! With knowledge of and connections to most Division I programs across the country, Liz is passionate about sharing her 12 years of experience in Division I track & field/cross country with the youth of Charlotte who want to grow and develop as runners. Youth track was a part of her early life as a runner, and she is excited to launch a new branch of Fillnow Coaching for local youth who are looking for a consistent summer training program and a fun group to train with!

Run Training

Technique will be emphasized in all sessions. Additionally, strength training, core work, form drills, dynamic stretching, and race strategy will also be discussed. Liz will provide an uplifting and encouraging environment for all participants.
